My friend lives in Panama City so I checked in with him to be sure his place didn’t have any damage after this week’s earthquake. It was about 200 miles from him – but even so.
I also remembered I’ve been in three earthquakes – in all three of the major fault lines in the United States. The New Madrid in St Louis in 1968 (I remember that year because I was pregnant and my husband – who had been stationed in Japan – knew what it was and put me in the bathtub), the San Andreas in Los Angeles in the 90’s and the Ramapo in New Jersey in 2003.
The Los Angeles one was kind of funny too – I was there for a dance event rooming with my dance partner (separate beds). It woke us both up, as well as many other dancers on the same floor in the high rise hotel, and everyone went out in the hallway except me. I just said “meh, it’s a little earthquake” turned over, and went back to sleep.
